YESS was held for the third time

Young researchers met in Geneva for the Young Epilepsy Symposium Switzerland. This year, awards were introduced for the best presentations. The group is planning to set up an official Young Epilepsy Section for Switzerland.

YESS was held for the third time

(Geneva) A total of 25 early-career scientists gathered on March 21, 2026, to exchange ideas about their research and get to know one another. The keynote address was delivered by Prof. Serge Vulliémoz from Geneva and focused on “Imaging epileptic networks: opportunities and challenges.”

For the first time, participants also had the chance to win awards: the best 10-minute presentation and the best 2–3-minute presentation each received a certificate and a small gift. The jury consisted of Prof. Serge Vulliémoz and Prof. Fabienne Picard from Geneva, Prof. Georgia Ramantani from Zurich, and PD Martin Hardmeier from Basel. The coveted “Best Presentation Award” went to Gregory Lepeu from Lausanne for his talk on “Post-ictal refractory period: a dynamical approach.” Maria Dimou from Geneva received the “Best Lightning Talk Award.”

The symposium was organized by some of the participants in collaboration with the Swiss League Against Epilepsy.
“Over the past few years, we have successfully established a strong nationwide network, bringing together young professionals from across Switzerland”, say the organisers, Gregory Lepeu, Maria Pagiantza, Nicolas Roehri, Miranda Stattmann, and Louise de Wouters. “Looking ahead, we aim to further consolidate this community and transition into an official national chapter of the ILAE Young Epilepsy Section (YES). We look forward to actively shaping the future of epileptology by providing a dedicated platform for the next generation of experts to collaborate and drive innovation in our country.”
